St. Anthony’s captures third straight football crown
St. Anthony’s High School, South Huntington, teammates celebrate their third straight Catholic High School Football League AAA championship following a 14-0 win over Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, last Friday night at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. Junior linebacker Anthony Leggio’s 61-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter highlighted the Friars’ 29th consecutive victory and 211th career win for St. Anthony’s coach Rich Reichert, tying him for most wins of any high school football coach in Suffolk County history. This was Reichert’s 13th league title, and 10th in the last 11 seasons.

Kellenberg falls just short
Senior quarterback Matt McDaniels of Kellenberg Memorial High School, Uniondale, breaks one for 80 yards and a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in Kellenberg’s showdown with Fordham Prep of the Bronx, for the CHSFL AA championship last Saturday at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. McDaniels rushed for 345 yards and scored all three of his team’s touchdowns, but Kellenberg fell just short, as Fordham Prep scored a touchdown with just 18 seconds left, then added a two point conversion to pull out a 22-21 victory.
