School, Baldwin and Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional School, Southampton, took part in the 2011 World Series Championship of Fantasy Baseball hosted by SS. Phillip and James School.

Students at St. Edward the Confessor School, Syosset, participate in a Buddy Program which allows upper grade students to mentor younger students throughout the year. Recently, eighth-grade and first-grade students worked together to create Christmas cards for senior citizens

Students, from SS. Cyril & Methodius School, Deer Park, competed in the 2012 National Geographic Society’s Geobee on Jan. 12th with fifth through eighth grade class winners competing for the right to move up to the county level of this national contest.

Students from Our Lady of Victory School, Floral Park, recently participated in Rachel’s Challenge, an anti-bullying program founded in honor of Rachel Scott, a student killed at Columbine H.S. in 1999. In an effort to follow Rachel’s message to “start a chain reaction” of acts of kindness and compassion, a group of students from the upper grades organized an assembly to reinforce what they learned.
They presented skits of various bullying situations and how to handle them. The students made a paper chain, and signed a Rachel’s Challenge banner to show their commitment to following Rachel’s example of kindness.

Students at St. Rose of Lima School, Massapequa, recently participated in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-A-Thon© program, raising over $3,000 to benefit St. Jude. Students from K-8 kicked off the Math-A-Thon by watching a video of a young child’s struggle and recovery from cancer through the efforts of St. Jude. St. Rose of Lima School had 100 percent of children using the math books to supplement their curriculum.

The students at Holy Angels Regional School in Patchogue follow Jesus’ example with a “Giving Tree” that’s not just for Christmas. Here, students who were enjoying a “Polar Express Day” in December, stopped at the tree where they had collected mittens, hats and scarves for the Giving Tree for local parish outreach programs while at the same time organizing a food drive for St. Francis de Sales parish outreach. The Giving Tree will have different themes throughout the year such as “Respect Life” in which the students will donate baby items, and “Respect the Elderly” in which the students will give gifts for nursing homes.

St. Patrick’s School in Bay Shore will welcome back the National Circus Project this month with a public performance set for Friday night, Jan. 27. The National Circus Project supplements the student’s physical education program and promotes teamwork and cooperation. During the week the circus visits the school, students practice new skills like balancing plates and juggling balls in preparation for a performance for parents, fellow students and the general public. This year, for their annual service project, the kindergarten and first graders at Our Lady of Peace School, Lynbrook, chose to honor veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each child made a four season “Thank You” poster. As a group, the children donated $250 to purchase a guitar for the music therapy program provided by the Musicorps organization, which helps wounded veterans learn to play musical instruments to help with their recovery.

Fourth and fifth grade students at SS. Philip and James School, St. James, recently participated in a 10-week Dancing Classroom program and afterwards performed various ballroom dances for their families.
