St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, Smithtown, marked the 20th annual World Day of the Sick with a votive Mass for the sick two days in advance of the Feb. 11 observance. Father Fred Hill, a chaplain at the hospital for 30 years, was the principal celebrant and homilist at the liturgy. Instituted by Pope John Paul II, World Day of the Sick affirms the Church’s duty to pray for and minister to the sick and the suffering. It also presents an opportunity to recognize and honor healthcare workers and those who serve as caregivers. Above, Father Hill and fellow chaplain Theresa Maynard visit with patient Bill Murphy.
