Representatives of various religious communities on Long Island gathered at the 11 a.m. Mass Feb. 5 at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, to celebrate the annual World Day for Consecrated Life. Bishop William Murphy was the principal celebrant and homilist at the liturgy. Pope John Paul II instituted World Day for Consecrated Life in 1997 to recognize and honor those men and women who serve the Church through their ministries as sisters, brothers, religious order priests, monks, hermits, consecrated virgins and members of secular institutes. More than 1,200 religious women and men currently minister in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
