Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy as a civil rights advocate were lauded during an interfaith prayer service held in observance of his 83rd birthday at St. Brigid’s Church, Westbury, Jan. 15. Speaking in front of a capacity audience, representatives of various religious groups joined politicians in praising the historic efforts of Dr. King to secure equality, freedom and justice for all people. Dr. King was assassinated at age 39 in 1968, four years after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
