Good Samaritan Hospital earns awards for stroke and heart failure care

WEST ISLIP — Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center has earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus and Gold Performance Achievement Awards for stroke and heart failure, respectively.

“Our staff is dedicated to providing the best care for stroke and heart failure patients in the country,” said Nancy Simmons, Good Samaritan’s executive vice president and chief administrative officer. “Implementing the Get with the Guidelines protocols helps us to accomplish this.”

As a NYS designated stroke center, Good Samaritan offers the treatments needed in an emergency as well as stroke prevention services, including free screenings and lectures and raising awareness of the warning signs for stroke. The department of emergency medicine provides the critical care needed in an urgent stroke situation. The radiology department offers advanced, low-dosage CT scanning and other diagnostic imaging, including MRIs. Additionally, patients who are recovering from stroke receive services such as short- and long-term home health care, speech and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
