Catholic teens in action

Earlier this summer, the youth ministries of St. Brigid’s in Westbury and St. Frances de Chantal in Wantagh partnered in a service mission to benefit Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal parish in Wyandanch, whose parish outreach center was destroyed by a fire earlier this year. The three-day event, orchestrated by youth ministers Vince Buzzeo of St. Brigid and Meg Albertini of St. Frances, began with a gathering for prayer, meditation and reflection at the Tabor Retreat Center in Oceanside. Following a presentation on discipleship, the group traveled to Wyandanch, where, left to right in photo at left, Thomas PeAguirre, Amanda Gratta and Vanessa Pereira of St. Brigid’s were among the young people from both parishes who worked in the hot sun, helping to sort, shelve and organize hundreds of pounds of food. They also took time out to play with the children in the day camp that was being held at OLMM, and to hand out ice pops to the children. After a full day of service, the teens headed for Long Beach for some relaxation, reflection, and discussion. The event concluded the following day with Mass, a final prayer and lunch.
