Father Saloy sentenced

Father Thomas Saloy has been sentenced to 41 months in prison after having pled guilty to possession of child pornography. Father Saloy was arrested by Federal officials in November 2006. He has been on administrative leave and as such, may not present himself publicly as a priest, nor may he celebrate Mass publicly. Diocesan spokesman Sean Dolan told TLIC that Father Saloy has not been staying in a parish setting since his arrest.

“The Diocese of Rockville Centre remains vigilant in working to assure that every parish is a safe environment for children and families,” Dolan said. “This is a tragic situation for all concerned, and we continue to urge anyone who has information or suspicions about sexual abuse by Church personnel or volunteers to immediately contact the diocese and civil authorities.”

The special diocesan phone line for reporting allegations or suspicions of abuse can be reached at 516-594-9063.
