My Catholic School Experience

My father died of liver cancer in October of 1974, leaving my mother a widow with 10 children. At that time, six children were enrolled in St. Mary School in East Islip with the older four already graduated. Through the kindness, hard work, dedication and example of the entire school staff, we learned that although we may face situations in life where there was no hope, we would never face a situation where there was no faith. It was an invaluable lesson that has served all of us well throughout the years. In addition to a strong academic foundation — we all have college degrees with several of us achieving masters and Ph.D.s — we were taught a moral code that we all live by today. I am truly blessed to be able to send my children to St. Mary School where a long tradition of learning, caring and serving God continues.

— Lois Mills-Lannigan
