Golden wedding jubilarians honored in Commack
 

Commack — More than 100 couples married 50 years or more gathered with family and friends at Christ the King Church here on Sunday, Nov. 18, for the Golden Wedding celebration sponsored by the diocesan Office of Worship. Bishop John Dunne presided at the Mass for the honored couples. Full Story

 
Msgr. Maniscalco to author Question and Answer column

Beginning after the new year, Msgr. Francis Maniscalco will offer a monthly Question and Answer column in TLIC designed to respond to inquiries from readers about Church teachings, practices and various aspects of the Catholic faith. Currently director of the diocesan Respect Life Office, Msgr. Maniscalco is a former editor of The Long Island Catholic and former director of communications for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Liturgical composer gives uplifting concert and workshop

Holbrook — Dan Schutte, composer of some of the most popular liturgical music of the past 30 years, shared his talent and experience at a concert and workshop at Good Shepherd parish here, Nov. 2 and 3. Schutte, who wrote such popular hymns as “Here I Am, Lord,” “Table of Plenty” and “City of God,” travels the country offering a two-part presentation, which includes an evening of music and meditation followed by a workshop on building a welcoming community. Long Island Catholic High School Sports Highlights
State titles, national rankings highlight fall sports season

State championships for four different schools, along with a record-breaking performance by a Sacred Heart Academy swimmer and two nationally ranked teams from St. Anthony’s, were among the highlights of the 2007 fall sports season for Long Island’s Catholic high schools.

Football dynasty

The dynasty continued for St. Anthony’s High School football, as the South Huntington school captured its seventh straight Catholic High School Football League (CHSFL) AAA championship with a 26-20 win over Mount St. Michael Nov. 18 at Hofstra University.
