Highlights of Religious Education Week
 

At St. James in Setauket, the children in Level Three wrote their own prayers of petition during a Liturgy of the Word workshop. Earlier, eighth-graders in the program hosted the little ones at an annual All Saints All Souls party.

Young pro-life activist encourages listeners

Glen Cove — “Politicians have been able to get pro-lifers to vote for them by being only a little more pro-life than their opponents,” complained Elizabeth Andrew, a 25-year-old right-to-life activist.

Once those politicians get elected, they do little to advance the right-to-life cause, Andrew told about 40 people who attended her early evening talk at the parish hall Nov. 10 at St. Patrick’s Church here. “They don’t seem to take us seriously. Full Story

Feast of Our Lady of Ostrabrama
 

Bishop Peter A. Libasci joined the parish of Our Lady of Ostrabrama, Cutchogue, in honoring the Blessed Mother on her feast day Nov. 17. The bishop blessed a new icon of Our Lady of Ostrabrama, which was carried in a candle-lit procession around the church grounds. Mass was celebrated in Polish and English. Here, parishioners lift the icon to lead the procession before Mass.

Father Pereda named monsignor
 
Rockville Centre — Pope Benedict XVI has named Father James Pereda a Chaplain to His Holiness, with the title of reverend monsignor. Msgr. Pereda is the judicial vicar of the diocese.

“I am delighted that Father Pereda is being given special recognition from the Holy Father,” said Bishop William Murphy.
