By Mary Gorry
Staff Reporter |
|
Hicksville — While recounting pro-life legislative
successes in New York over the years, Kathleen Gallagher of

out” by Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s efforts to define abortion as a

Help for the holidays
Several parishes around our diocese have a particularly
large number of people who are in need of material help and
try to provide for them especially at Thanksgiving and
Christmas. The needs are beyond what their own parishioners
can supply.
We invite parish staff to let us know if you need help at
this time. E-mail us at
news@licatholic.org with your request. Include the
name and address of your parish where donations may be sent
and a phone number our readers can contact for more specific
information. The deadline is Oct. 24.

priest reading a breviary alone or monks or sisters chanting

Church” for everyone — a simple form of prayer that anyone
can pray in a group or alone, said Sister of Mercy Sheila
Browne, associate director of the diocesan Office of
Worship.

St. Brigid Church, Westbury, at a time when Mineola’s
farmland was giving way to residential neighborhoods. Mass
was initially celebrated in a chapel and later moved to a
new church in 1909, eight years after Corpus Christi
received parish status.

‘The awesomeness that is our God’
By Kara McCoy
|
|
Before entering high school, religion was not a big part of
my life. I prayed every now and then, went to Mass on
Sundays ... but that was about it. During my freshman year
at Kellenberg Memorial, however, my eyes were completely
opened to the awesomeness that is our God, and I really
began to embrace His presence in my life.
