St. Mary’s class finally meets their Peace
Corps pen pal

Manhasset — They were meeting for the first time, but
they were already old friends. The fourth-grade class at St.
Mary’s Elementary School and Peace Corps volunteer and
Manhasset resident Michael Breslin spent almost a year as
pen pals, corresponding between Manhasset and Guatemala, and
on Aug. 23, the pen pals finally met in person.

help write scripts. They work on the production crew. The
interns at Telecare here do all of this and more, learning
the skills necessary to work at a television station as well
as what makes working at a diocesan television station
special.

Methodius Church here was not just abstinence education, but
relationship education. Along with introducing programs for
teens in local schools, the Life Center of Long Island wants
to teach parents how to reinforce those values at home.

St. James Church, Setauket

The seeds of St. James Parish were planted more than a
century ago when an affluent French Catholic family built a
small church on Main Street in Setauket in 1888. The mission
was served by the Montfort Fathers and priests from
neighboring churches until 1949, when St. James was elevated
to parish status by the Diocese of Brooklyn.
