Brother Neri Fulton, coach and teacher, dies in crash 
 

Kings Park — A funeral Mass was set for March 29 at St. Joseph’s Church here for Franciscan Brother Neri Fulton, longtime faculty member and coach at St. Anthony High School, South Huntington, who died March 25 in a car accident.

As The Long Island Catholic was going to press, TLIC learned of the deaths of two diocesan priests, Msgr. Donald Desmond, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Church, East Hampton, and Father Robert O’Connell, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Patchogue. The Mass of Transferral for Msgr. Desmond was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 29 in Most Holy Trinity’s parish hall. The funeral Mass was set for 11 a.m. March 30 in the parish hall. For Father O’Connell, Mass of Transferral was set for 7:30 p.m. March 30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The funeral Mass was scheduled for March 31 at 11 a.m. in the church. Obituaries for both priests will follow in next week’s issue.

Deacon Audia’s book will help bridge gap in evangelizing children

North Massapequa — Deacon John Audia, a chaplain with the diocesan Pastoral Ministry with the Deaf, has written a book called “The Creation Story in Words and Sign Language” to introduce kids to stories from the Bible and to bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing cultures.

Religious leaders call for tuition tax deduction in budget
 

A broad cross-section of religious leaders, including Bishop William Murphy, Cardinal Edward Egan and all of New York State’s diocesan Catholic bishops, have written Gov. Eliot Spitzer urging him to include a tuition tax deduction in the state budget for parents of children in private or parochial schools.
