Diocesan group brings concerns, worries to Albany

Albany — Sporting big red badges reading “Catholic Voter,” 80 Long Islanders joined more than 1,100 Catholics from all eight dioceses of New York State as they converged on the state capital here last week to lobby the legislature and governor on issues of concern.

Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, Southampton
 

The roots of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary date to the early 1880s, when it began as a mission church of Sag Harbor’s St. Andrew Parish.

Mass was initially celebrated only during the summer, primarily as a service to the Irish immigrants who were employed by the wealthy owners of the seasonal residences. In 1896, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary was declared an official parish of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Bowie Kuhn, ex-commissioner of baseball, kept his faith in the lineup
